October 16, 2020 Off By Rowena Cletus

Though I’m not one who will willingly reveal my age, but to us millennials, the 90s were the golden age of music. The era was responsible some of the most memorable songs of our lifetime. And regardless of what Gen Z might say, the noughties were responsible for the demise of decency associated with pop culture.

Sony acknowledges the importance of that era, which is why its decided to highlight this. It’s celebrating it with the introduction of the My 90s Playlist, a new podcast that explores the decade’s most iconic songs. Available on Apple Podcast, the first episode features the history of hit R&B group TLC and the making of their chart-topping single “No Scrubs.”

This series is hosted by music and pop culture enthusiasts Tracy Clayton and Akoto Ofori-Atta and produced by Multitude. My 90s Playlist is said to explore the best songs from that era and reveal intricate details that we didn’t know about. It includes songs from Mariah Carey, Outkast, Ricky Martin, Natalie Imbruglia, Celine Dion, Ginuwine and Backstreet Boys.

Regarding the podcast, Clayton and Ofori-Atta said, “So much of what’s happening in the pop culture and music landscape today is influenced by the music of the 90s. This show is all about revisiting and celebrating the incredible hits that have shaped our culture.”

The first Episode on TLC is already available to listen. Future episodes of this podcast will be published in due course.
