AMD At CES 2022: What You Need To Know

January 9, 2022 Off By Naveen Victor

Intel and AMD made quite an impression at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2022), with the release or reveal of brand-new chips. Team red’s Ryzen 6000 Series laptop processors, which are built on the updated Zen3+ architecture are supposed to be gamechangers.

Touted as AMD’s fastest processors yet with up to 5Ghz clock speeds, the new additions are said to be 1.3 times faster in processing speeds and possess 2.1 times faster graphics power than the 5000 series chips. The power and efficiency are possible due to adaptive power managements and new deep sleep states.

As a result, the 6000 series processors use up to 30% less power for video conferencing tasks and are efficient enough to deliver up to 24 hours of battery life for movie playback. These are bold claims, which if proven true could make Ryzen chips a viable alternative to Intel ones for ultraportables.

AMD pegs multithreaded performance at up to 28% faster and single-threaded at up 11% faster than the 5000 Series processors. In addition to this, the inclusion of RDNA 2 integrated graphics should give Ryzen chips the edge in gaming. The performance is supposed to be twice as fast as last gen. This allows for smooth gameplay of AAA titles with full HD.

RDNA 2 uses an all-new integrated display engine allowing for ultra-high resolutions and refresh rates. AMD claims it can deliver up to 70% faster AAA gaming performance compared to similar Intel offerings. AMD FreeSync technology is supported, which should help maximize HDR displays.

The following are some of the upgrades that 6000 Series have to offer:

  • Advanced DDR5 memory for faster mobile computing
  • Upgraded peripherals support with PCIe 4.0 and USB4
  • AI noise cancellation to filter background noise
  • Powerful Wi-Fi™ 6E solutions from relationships with Qualcomm and MediaTek
  • Support for Microsoft Pluton security processor

The most powerful HX- Series processors can deliver great performance for thin and light laptops. This should be interesting to see how well these chips do against Apple’s M1 Pro Max and Intel’s new Core i9 offerings.

The following is the full list of the Ryzen 6000 Series chips that should be available in February 2022 via OEM partners like Dell, Asus and HP:
