First off, there’s a new logo. The old one, which featured a square map and a location pin, has been tossed aside. In its place is a simplified pin, that bares a striking resemblance to the Chrome logo.

This new app, has 5 very useful tabs: Explore, Commute, Saved, Contribute, Updates. Here’s what you need to know about them:

Commute
Irrespective of your mode of transportation, the commute tab helps you plan the most efficient route possible to your destination. Here, you are also fed with real time traffic updates, travel times and suggestions for alternative routes.

Saved
All your favorite destinations are saved in one convenient spot. This tab can also be used to plan and organize a trip as well as share your recommendations.

Contribute
Crowdsourcing is an important key to maintaining the usefulness of apps like Google Maps. The contribute tab lets you share local knowledge, such as information about roads and addresses, missing places, business reviews and photos.

Updates
It isn’t what you think. The Updates tab provides you with noteworthy locations cherry-picked by local experts and publishers. It also allows you to chat with local business and get have your questions answered.

That’s not all. Besides these new features, Google is also updating current ones to make them more useful. Crowdness predictions informs you of expected issues with public transportation, which include temperature, accessibility and safety. Also, expect to Live View to receive changes as well.
