Microsoft has started shipping its HoloLens 2 to customers around the world. This augmented reality headset is aimed at improving productivity through effective collaborative efforts. Resembling miniaturized welding glasses, HoloLens 2 combines clever AI and Azure cloud computing to achieve a smooth user experience.

The instant a user adorns the equipment, its AI starts scanning his/her hands and the distance between both eyes. It needs this information for proper placement of objects in view of the wearer. In addition to this, Perception, is a system that eliminates micro lags, which is attributed to HoloLens 2’s fluidic experience. It predicts users’ intentions and preps the interface accordingly.

Unlike virtual reality, Microsoft’s HoloLens 2 overlays holographic images in the viewer’s filed view and based on his/her depth perception. These images are only visible to the wearer who can also manipulate their sizes and positions with gestures. This grants teams the ability to collaborate on a prototyping project despite being miles apart.

Since the HoloLens 2 is connected to the cloud, collaborators will have instant access to each others work. Augmented reality headsets, which includes the HoloLens 2, shows a lot more promise compared to VR systems, because they don’t block the wearer’s field of view, allowing them to carry out thier day as usual.
