India gives Huawei green-light for 5G

Huawei has been granted access to India’s development of its 5G Network. The country’s Technology and Communications Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said on twitter, “We have decided to give 5G spectrum for trials to all players.”

Like many other countries, India doesn’t seem to have much cause for concern regarding Huawei’s business practices. And as such believes, that a level playing field is necessary to benefit the country’s growing need for good and reliable 5G infrastructure.

India is home to the second highest number of internet users in the world, which equates to about 665 million users. It is estimated that that number will skyrocket to 1.1 billion by 2030. The majority of these users are below the age of 35 and view content on mobile devices.

If Huawei manages to win the favor of the Indian government, like it did with several European nations, the company stands to win ‘big’. The business that it would receive will easily offset the troubles it currently faces in the US.

The Chinese telecommunications giant has been barred from doing business in the US due to spying concerns. The US government alleges that Huawei systems allow the Chinese government access to private and confidential data. This is a claim that Huawei has vehemently denied.
