Malaysians Used Beam E-Scooters To Travel Over 2 Million Kilometers

Beam, an e-scooter service provider, has set new records in terms of total rides, riders, e-scooter deployments and other areas. Since it landed in Malaysia in 2019, the company’s goal has been to help improve transportation in the country by bolstering solutions that support the first and last mile of a commuter’s journey.

There have been over 80,000 new sign-ups over the course of 2022, which means there is now a 65% higher total pool of riders than the previous year. This data, according to the company, proves that Malaysians are starting to see the value in shared e-scooters as a convenient method of travelling from point A to B.

There were over one million trips taken in 2022, which is a multiple of 2.5 times from the previous year. Over 100,000 of said trips were to move people to or from transportation facilities like MRT, LRT or bus stations.

“The data clearly shows that an increasing number of Malaysians are more accepting of shared e-scooters as a real mode of transport. I would like to thank all our riders for the constant support and constructive feedback over the past year,” said Justin Tiew, General Manager of Beam Mobility Malaysia.

As a means to help bolster this support system, Beam has over 3,500 e-scooters deployed all over peninsular Malaysia, which includes areas in Perak, Pahang, Johor and the Klang Valley. As long as there’s a large enough fleet, commuters should be able to get around town as efficiently as possible.

Beam says due to the impact it has made in 2022, Malaysians traveled a total of over two million kilometers on the company’s e-scooters rather than cars. If this is true, that means that this action helped prevent more than 486 tonnes of carbon emissions from being released into the atmosphere.

The company also says that it plans to work closely with authorities and other service providers to establish a more enhanced public transport network in Malaysia. The Beam app is available on both the Apple App Store and Google’s Play store.
