Malaysians are beginning to view e-scooters as a practical mode of transportation to cover the first and last mile of their journey. This is why Beam Mobility has expanded its e-scooter sharing program to cover 6 major cities, which include Kuala Lumpur, Ampang Jaya, Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, Kuantan and Langkawi.

The company says that it experienced strong growth in 2022 due to a large number of new signings, bringing its total pool of riders to 65% higher than the figure for the previous year. Total distance travelled with its e-scooters was over 2,000,000 km. This saved 486 tonnes of carbon emissions from being released to the atmosphere, had they resorted to using private transport.

As of today, the total number of Beam users is well over 8000,000 people. In Klang Valley alone, commuters make 100,000 trips on the company’s e-scooters to or from a public transport facility. Based on a recent survey of over 1,500 public respondents, Malaysians are receptive to the idea of using shared e-scooters and its potential positive impact on the environment.

About 60% of respondents felt positive about the e-scooter service being implemented in their cities while only 9% of them had a negative view of it. While it may not be suitable for everyone, it does help fill in the gaps in our public transportation system, which allows for a smoother and more reliable daily commute.
