Refrigerators aren’t appealing appliances. But that might soon change with the new and improved ice boxes being churned out by Samsung and LG. The new LG InstaView French Door refrigerator, which is set to be unveiled at CES next year, aims to spruce up the kitchen.

It’s a new counter-depth model that offers large capacity storage configurations and provides four different types of ice, which are cubed ice, crushed ice, Craft Ice, mini cubed ice. Compared to a traditional French-door fridge, it has a 9% reduction in depth.

LG maximized internal space by redesigning core components, slimming down the cold air ducts, evaporator and reducing the thickness by applying enhanced insulation. This means that it offers 25% more room for storing food and drinks compared to previous models. The smaller footprint helps save space in the kitchen for other appliances.

The new model has LG’s mirror-InstaView panel and flat door design. Featuring a stainless-steel frame, the mirror coated glass of the InstaView panel covers almost the entire right-hand door. You activate it by knocking twice on the panel to illuminate the view into the fridge. Users can then peer into it to browse its contents.

“LG’s new InstaView French-Door refrigerator makes a superb, stylish addition to any modern kitchen, offering consumers the ultimate in convenience, design and food freshness,” said Lyu Jae-cheol, president of LG Electronics Home Appliance & Air Solution Company.

Though some consumers may consider this to be a gimmick, the feature saves time and reduces the need to open the fridge door. This prevents cold air from escaping, which in turn reduces overall energy wasted. The LG InstaView also has discrete pocket handles applied to the flat doors to add to the aesthetic appeal.

LG’s LinearCooling technology reduces temperature fluctuations and allows the fridge to preserve food at peak freshness for up to 7 days. DoorCooling+ on the other hand works faster than conventional cooling systems to keep food fresh and beverages colder on each shelf.

These technologies work together to ensure there’s a good seal between the fridge and the outside world so that food stays fresh for longer and preserves the hygiene for the built-in water dispenser. The UVnano tech helps maintain the cleanliness of the fridge’s water dispenser by eliminating about 99.9% of bacteria.

LG will be showing of the InstaView French-Door refrigerator and other home appliances at its exhibition booth (#15501, Las Vegas Convention Center) at CES 2023 in Las Vegas from January 5-8.
