OPPO’s Enco Air2 wireless earbuds is the follow up model to the Enco Air that was introduced last year. It boasts several characteristics such as improved touch controls, long lasting battery as well as the ability to adjust the output to favor either bass or clarity.

The Enco Air2 comes in a compact and minimalist packaging. Inside are the Enco Air2 and the various warranty and instruction booklets. There’s no charging cable or similar accessories included. The absence of silicone ear tips suggests that OPPO is continuing with the tried and tested design employed by its predecessor.

The case draws inspiration from the original with its clamshell aesthetics and features a similarly semi-translucent top half of said shell. The entire case weighs 33.3 grams, which is quite light considering it packs enough juice to provide 24 hours’ worth of battery life.

It’s available in two colors: Misty Morning White and Sky-Bright Blue. The color choice only affects the bottom half of the case and the earbuds themselves. The semi-translucent top section is a standard design feature, which is meant to imitate the look of jelly. That said, it’s basically a hard-shell container that contributes to the overall lightness of the case.

Open it, and you are greeted by the Enco Air2 buds themselves. They feature the same stem and earbud design as the Enco Air. The earbuds have been moldered to fit directly on and into your ears without the assistance of said eartips. It’s a similar but polarizing approach Apple has taken with its AirPods model lineup. We shall have to thoroughly test the fitment to let you know if we can confidently recommend the new Air2.

Each earbud weighs 3.5 grams and features touch sensitive stems. To enter pairing mode, press and hold the touch sensitive area on both left and right earbuds for 4 seconds, to initiate Bluetooth pairing.

Double tap the left or right stem to play the next/previous song as well as to answer or hang-up a call. This same gesture can be used if you want to take a picture with your paired smartphone. It’s a peculiar addition but it might be useful to the selfie taking crowd.

Tap either stem three times to activate the voice assistant or enable game mode. The latter is supposed to improve syncing between what you hear and what’s happening on your phone screen as well as reduce the likelihood of connection interference or disconnection. But we will need to test these claims to see if they hold true.

Press and hold the right earbud for 1 second to increase the volume. Do the same on the left one to reduce said volume. Oppo claims that the Enco Air2 supports low-latency binaural synchronous transmission. This maintains the stability of the Bluetooth connection. It’s supposed to prevent those untimely disconnections that happen from time to time due to varying factors.

Each earbud has a 13.4mm speaker driver fitted with a composite titanium-plated diaphragm. Compared to the original Enco Air, this larger driver delivers more bass by creating a stronger thrust to drive the intended vibrations. The dome of the earbud is 19μm in size and is PET titanium-plated. This is what helps to improve the overall treble delivery.

The Enco Air2 features two stereo sound modes: Bass Boost and Clear Vocals. The former tunes the drivers to deliver punchy bass, which is needed to thoroughly enjoy HipHop, Rap or R&B music. The latter favors clarity, which delivers better precision for vocals and instruments.

OPPO’s Enco Air2 also come with AI deep call noise cancellation, which is a type of technology that uses DNN (Deep Neural Network) that separates your voice from the ambient sounds around you to deliver a clearer and coherent call experience even in noisy environments.

On a single charge, you can expect close to 4 hours of battery life, but when supported by their charging case, the Enco Air2 can deliver close to 24 hours of service life. When fully depleted, the case will need to be plugged into the charger for 1.5 hours to receive a full charge.

We will be testing the Enco Air2 extensively over the next several days to gauge how they perform compared to the competition as well as to see how they fair. Stay tuned and we will let you know more in the coming days.
