The Nest can watch your HVAC

Google is testing a feature for the Nest that will allow it to monitor your HVAC system. When enabled, your Nest will keep a watchful eye on your heating and cooling, and alert you to potential problems. It’s called the Nest Home Report, and it will contain detailed information on what’s going on at home.

The search giant says the Nest tries to learn how to identify unusual patterns related to HVAC systems. It can do this by observing your thermostat’s historical data and weather conditions at any point in time. Based on this information, it can alert you if something’s gone awry.

An example of this is noticing when it takes longer than expected for your HVAC to heat the home. If there’s a confirmed issue, an alert will then be sent via email to notify you of the potential problem and what might have caused it.

If a solution can’t be found, then Google is also baking in a feature that will help you connect with professionals who can help fix it. This is possible with the help of Handy, a platform that connects qualified professionals with customers who need their services.

This HVAC alert feature could potentially help you avoid costly electricity bills by ensuring that your heating and cooling systems are operating efficiently. If you want to sign up for this Nest Home Report, you can do so here. And to learn more about it, here’s the link.
