Volvo Cars has recorded its best ever first-half-year sales in 2021. The company sold 380,757 cars globally, which is an increase of 41% compared with the same period last year. This can be attributed to strong demand in China, the US and Europe with said markets recording double-digit growth compared to 2020.

In June alone, Volvo sold 68,224 cars globally, up 11% from the same period last year. But that isn’t all, the number of Volvo cars sold online increased more than fivefold compared with the same period last year. About 24.6% of Volvo cars sold globally, had either a hybrid or fully electric powertrain. That is about a 150% increase compared to last year.

In the past 6 months, US sales reached 63,754 cars (47.4% increase), China reached 95,252 cars(44.9% increase) and in Europe sales grew by 35.4%, to 166,822 sold cars. Apparently, the United Kingdom played a big role in bolstering sales in Europe. That said, 2020 was a dismal year for most sectors, including the automotive one.

Since the vaccine rollouts started late last year, many countries have been able to emerge from lockdown restrictions and return to some form of normalcy. Cars have become important once more since we are no longer confined to our homes. That said, Volvo Cars has been doing exceptionally well over the past several years thanks in part to Parent Company, Geely.

For the first six months of 2021, the XC40 was the top-selling model, with sales of 118,121 cars (68,359 units in 2020), followed by the XC60 with total sales of 113,500 cars (78,761 units in 2020) and the XC90 with 54,177 cars sold (37,918 units in 2020).
