Google is consistently improving the way Search is able to do its job, from integrating it with image recognition tech to enabling it to understand the context of what you’re looking for. Now, the company is adding a way to find location information of businesses with multisearch.

This will allow you to use a picture or screenshot that you’d like to search for, then for context, type “near me” to get the required results for restaurants or places that sell what you’re looking for. To do this, use a picture online with multisearch. Google then scans millions of images and reviews online to find relevant information on locations near you that have said item.

This functionality will be available in English later this year but the company plans on expanding the coverage to more languages over time.

But that isn’t all, Google is also working on something even smarter than what’s already available. In the future, we will have access to “scene exploration”, which allows you to use multisearch with your phone camera to scan an entire area such as an aisle at a grocery store to pick out an item that you want i.e. a chocolate bar without nuts.

The system will be able to recognize objects on the shelf or shelves and offer helpful insights that will be overlaid on said items. Instead of having to pick each item up to examine its relevance to you, scene exploration does the legwork and singles out the ones that are of interest to you.

This is part of Google’s ongoing effort to “bridge the physical and digital worlds” in Google Maps through the help of AI advancements. The company also says that this technology enables interactions with Google Assistant to be more natural and intuitive. The end goal is to provide an accurate, helping hand to users and improve the way they look for things online.
