New Google Chrome Features For Better Productivity

Google has added some helpful features to Chrome that may help improve daily productivity. Despite the browser’s various drawbacks, which includes its propensity to hog computer memory, Chrome is still the preferred choice. And with Google steadily improving its efficiency and adding useful features, Microsoft’s Edge won’t be able to dethrone the king.

These are some of the more helpful features of Chrome:

Link Highlighted Text
If you want to draw your co-worker or friend’s attention to a particular sentence or paragraph on a webpage, just highlight the respective section, then right-click to select “Copy link to highlight” then send the link. When the recipient accesses the link, they’re immediately taken to said section. This feature is available for desktop, Android users now and eventually iOS.

New Ways To Use PDFs
Chrome does a decent job of being a PDF reader. However, the new improvements should make it a little better. Turning on presentation mode when reading a PDF file, allows Chrome to move toolbars, address bars, tabs etc out of view. Only the PDF content will remain visible, which is useful to maximize screen real estate or when presenting to an audience.

But that’s not all, Chrome has several new features for PDF files. There’s document properties, two-page view and an updated top toolbar. They are available for use now. Make sure you have the latest update to get the best of what’s offered.

Improved Performance
Chrome now uses less CPU power. This will help conserve battery power and reduce the need for the CPU fan to ramp up its speed. Google claims that said improvement can reclaim up to 100MB per tab. Mac users can see up to 65% improvement in energy consumption when Chrome prioritizes active tabs over unused ones.

The performance benefits are said to be similar for Windows, Chrome OS and Linux users. For Android users, they can expect up to 13% faster start up times even when many tabs are open. But that’s not all, Google will soon be launching tab freezing for collapsed groups. When tabs are hidden, they use less memory and CPU power.

Name Your Chrome Windows
Did you know that you could name each Chrome Window? If you have multiple Windows open, each having multiple tabs on various topics, naming each window could help you stay organized and toggle between them more effectively. Naming the window that contains tabs relating to your work, could help you easily find it when bouncing between work and play.
