Opera Browser Now Optimized For Chromebooks

July 5, 2021 Off By Rowena Cletus

Opera is now the world’s first Chromebook-optimized alternative browser. In addition to Opera’s browser VPN feature, it offers built-in messengers, an ad blocker, a cookie dialog blocker, and color themes not available on Chrome OS.

The Chrome OS operating system is becoming ever popular in business and education. About 30 million Chromebooks were sold in 2020 and a further 40 million is forecasted to be sold in 2021. In Q1 this year, Chromebook shipments increased by 276%, reaching a high of 12 million units in the first three months.

Despite Chromebooks’ popularity, there is still an absence of full-featured Chrome alternatives. According to a study conducted by Opera, people tend to use multiple browsers and choose one for work and the other for personal needs. Chromebook users now have the option of using another browser optimized for Chromebook – Opera.

“Chromebooks are excellent devices that are easy to use and have an excellent touchscreen interface. Our team decided that its time their users had access to an alternative browser that offers a set of useful and fun features.” said Stefan Stjernelund, product manager at Opera for Android.

ChromeOS users can now access Opera’s unique features
Opera on Chrome OS offers a set of unique features, such as built-in messengers, a free, unlimited built-in VPN, ad blocking, tracker blocking, and protection against GDPR-related cookie dialogs.

Chromebooks can also use the Opera browser to browse the web in five color schemes, available in light and dark modes. If you’re a Netflix binge watcher, a late-night reader, or a workaholic, Opera has you covered. Chromebooks users can protect their sleep patterns with the special night mode available in the browser, which also saves others nearby from very bright light.

Laptop experience
Chromebook users will get the same features of the Opera Browser for Android with customizations that make it as simple, fast and lightweight as possible to browse the Internet on Chromebook. The user can continue clicking and typing on the mouse and using keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl + T to open a new tab and Ctrl + L to focus the address bar.

Chromebook and Opera for Chromebook can both be synced seamlessly together, both on desktop computers and on Android and iOS smartphones. The Flow feature lets you sync them simply by scanning a QR code. Using this, you can have a personal, end-to-end encrypted chat with yourself, make notes, store images and small files, and save links for later use across all of your devices.

Inbuilt WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook Messenger
Opera wouldn’t be Opera if it didn’t let you use your favorite messengers instantly. As the only browser on Chromebooks to offer this feature, you can chat with friends and coworkers or check your Twitter or Instagram without disrupting your browsing. You have access to all the messengers you need.
